ESTATE HOSPITALITY STEWARD(ESS) PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

This position will work closely with the Executive Chef and the estate staff to facilitate meetings and special events, coordinate projects as assigned by the Executive Chef, and work proactively to ease and comfort the Principal’s daily routine.

The Estate Hospitality Steward(ess) will work with vendors, contractors, the family office, and estate staff to ensure the projects are running smoothly and the outcome meets the Principal’s expectations. 

  • Full-Time
  • Frequent travel between Atherton, CA and Southern, CA homes, other locations as needed
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • No relocation is on offer: candidates local to the Bay Area or Southern California will be considered
  • Schedule: 40 hours a week, guaranteed; must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate arrangements for meetings and special events, coordinate and interact with staff, family office, estate staff, and VIPs; liaise with vendors and contractors
  • Coordinate projects as assigned by the Executive Chef
  • Work cooperatively with the Family to ensure that their needs are met (and exceeded)
  • Update service manual for interior of home
  • Inventory control and management of service items (smallwares, inventories, etc.)
  • Shop for household supplies, personal items and occasional groceries as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning kitchen and butler pantry workspaces for flawless service and entertainment
  • Responsible for polishing and cleaning/care of all dinnerware including fine plate ware, silver service, glassware, placemats, and any other service-related items
  • Responsible for day-to-day cleanliness and upkeep of the butler’s pantry and service areas
  • Curate inventory for wine cellar
  • Travel to other Properties as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Executive Chef, and the Estate Manager

 Personal Service: 

  • Work with the Executive Chef to plan/execute high-level dinners and events
  • Track food and beverage preferences for the Principal, his Family, and guests
  • Create seating charts and place cards for intimate guest dinners
  • Set dining table, serve daily meals, mix cocktails, provide wine service
  • Create artistic table arrangements using flowers and appropriate tableware; provide upkeep and maintenance of floral arrangements
  • Train other household team members how to provide unobtrusive “invisible” service
  • Provide personal shopping service and run errands on behalf of the Principal
  • Provide additional help as required when parties & events at estate occur

SKILLS AND WORK HABITS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hospitality or similar experience preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure with deadlines and changing priorities, maintaining a calm demeanor
  • Ability to gracefully accept direct feedback
  • Must be able to handle very sensitive and highly confidential issues with diplomacy and discretion
  • High energy and ability to grasp new concepts quickly
  • Be proactive by finding ways to help other departments during downtime
  • Efficient, punctual, reliable, proactive, self-starter
  • Personable and able to work with various individuals effectively
  • Flexibility, integrity, and creative problem-solving skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work actively full-time in and around the Properties
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move substantial items as needed in performing job duties
  • Must be able to travel among the Properties, domestically and internationally, without assistance
  • Frequent travel for periods longer than a week will be required, dependent on the Principal's schedule:
    • Will travel every other Christmas or NYE
    • 7-10 days a month
  • Possess a valid passport, an unrestricted driver’s license, adequate vehicle insurance coverage, and a vehicle for use in performing job duties and travel among the Properties
  • Authorized to work legally in the US and be willing to undergo an in-depth background investigation

COMPENSATION:

  • $57.00-$62.50 per hour | DOE (120-130K in annualized compensation)
